Contaminated-site initial assessment checklist
Bring site history, affected media, pathways and existing investigations into one initial decision brief.
The CSV includes columns for availability, source/date and your notes. The checklist does not require you to send information to BGF.
Site context
- Site use and release history; location plan and investigation boundaries.
- Contaminants of concern, known source areas and affected soil, sediment, water or groundwater.
Evidence and pathways
- Sampling dates, locations, methods, detection limits and available quality checks.
- Hydrogeology, redox conditions, pH and relevant source–pathway–receptor connections.
- Monitoring trends, seasonal changes and evidence for transport, attenuation or degradation.
Decision and next step
- Proposed closure, treatment, monitoring or reuse objective.
- Access, utilities, safety restrictions and interfaces with appointed specialists.
- Decision deadline, outstanding uncertainties and the next investigation or review needed.
This is an initial information checklist, not a laboratory instruction, safety assessment or detailed design specification. Select parameters and sampling arrangements with the responsible specialists.
